What it changes in the music
An inverted copy of an identical aligned signal can cancel it when combined. Real layers are rarely perfectly identical, so flipping polarity can change some relationships while leaving others. Use it as a diagnostic option when layering or checking a recording path, not as a guaranteed bass enhancement. A stronger result in one passage still needs review across the full phrase.
A small experiment
Blend two related layers at a safe level and compare one layer with its polarity inverted. Notice which parts of the spectrum or transient change most.
Keep this distinction clear
A polarity inversion is not a time shift. It does not move a note later, and it cannot generally correct a complex frequency-dependent phase difference.
