What it changes in the music

Two related signals can reinforce or reduce parts of one another depending on their timing and phase relationship. A layered bass may therefore become weaker when another oscillator or processed copy is added. The relationship can vary with frequency, so a single alignment gesture does not solve every layer combination. Listen in context and inspect the processing path.

A small experiment

Compare one bass layer alone with two combined. Change a controlled timing or oscillator-start setting and listen to the low body at a stable output level.

Keep this distinction clear

Phase and polarity are not interchangeable terms. Reversing polarity flips a signal’s sign, while a phase relationship describes cycle position and can vary across frequencies.
