What it changes in the music

A new lead may arrive more naturally as the outgoing motif leaves than during its busiest passage. Phrase mixing therefore requires knowing what each section contains, not only counting a standard number of bars. A recording can use irregular lengths or unexpected changes. Combine counting with audible landmarks and rehearse the actual entry and exit.

A small experiment

Mark a major change in each recording and try different entry points that relate those changes. Keep the beat relationship stable so you can focus on the larger arrangement.

Keep this distinction clear

Phrase alignment does not require every track to use identical section lengths. A shorter or deliberately offset overlap can still create a coherent handover.
